At the risk of highlighting the obvious, it is a genuine relief to know that IRL NYC is more normy than social media would have us believe. Thanks for that.
Certain trans issues (medical treatments of underage kids) and DEI seemed to be losing ground before the election. Did those and similar changes in the collective zeitgeist cost Harris votes? Or was it the economy, pure and simple. (And feel free to call me stupid.)
I'm a conventional wisdom guy. It was primarily the economy, especially inflation, with immigration concerns being a big number 2. In NYC, crime on the subways was also a concern (not that the president matters there). The trans stuff hurt, but was a minor factor. Of course, the election being so close, it might have made the difference, who knows!
Thanks. I value yours as a voice of reason in the same "liberal-not-woke" camp as myself. However, I'm trying pretty hard to stay po'ed at Dems for losing the election and you're not helping!
Great piece and we need to keep these reminders coming. My daughter has been publishing her own periodic posts on social media giving detailed updates on her “radical liberal” daily activities. (Including such scandalous activities as walking the dog, doing the dishes, and watching TV. ) She has a great sense of humor and her friends from all walks of life appreciate her efforts to rein in all that radicalism.
There’s more than one way to talk to people. Keep up the good work!😊❤️
ooh i got proper life envy reading that!
I appreciate you suffering through this so the rest of us don't have to; coincidentally I am prepared to make the sacrifice myself. Where do I sign?
Such a Hellscape! Can I be one of your students please?
A note from your friendly local (literally, I live just north of you) ER doctor: get a portable helmet to wear when you use a CitiBike!

You're welcome!
Why do you think Dem votes went down?

I could have added that Biden picking Harris and then deciding to run again were two unforced screwups. Blame Dems for those!
